Like we need another bike thread: The Great Pumpkin Metric

Sunday, October 5, 2008 is the 27th Great Pumpkin Metric.

I scanned the thing they mailed because their website sucks(and was designed by a Canadian company... way to support the community)  It does have all of the information you need, though: http://www.evansvillebicycleclub.org/gpm.html

This will be my 4th year going.  It's something like my dad's 18th year going.  We do the 50K (people tend to get hit by cars on the 100K and it would take all day, and I've never ridden that far in one day so I'd be scared of a heart attack or a massive stroke).  It's a fun ride, with rest stops along the way that have fruit and drinks and PBJ sandwiches.  It's not a race, so you can ride as fast or slow as you want. $17 if you pre-register and $20 if you sign up there and it includes a semi-crappy spaghetti lunch after the ride.  Just posting to see if anyone else was going, even though I think Mitsuman might be the only one else who road rides.
Went on this years ago, and it was a great ride! Nice and relaxed pace. If I had a road bike, I'd go again. Maybe next year.

side bar, and not to get too far off topic, but do they still do the Harmonie Hundred? I haven't seen/heard anything about it in years. I'm pretty sure it was sponsored by the EBC as well. I used to ride that too. Used to do the one day/50 mile ride.
This is Sunday.  I took off work if anyone is going and wants to meet up in the morning or at a rest stop.
I would be willing to go and ride it, not sure if your on a road bike or what but I would have to ride at a mtb pace.
I rode the next-to-longest one on my 20" years ago. I'm sure it'd kill me if I did it now.

A few of us from work are going to do the 50k. Definitely won't be setting a record pace. I'll be on a single speed road bike and a couple others on MTB's with slicks.

I feel compelled to ride in this for some reason, but it would have to be on some kind of road bike.  Maybe next year...

I could conceivably put a saddle and pedals on the Bowery and do this. The 50k doesn't seem bad.

You could slap the big ring back on the Pitch and probably do okay. We should start an EF mafia and show those wimpy road bikers what's what!

That is if you can catch them and keep up with them.  Big Grin

This is a great idea.  It'll be just like an 80's movie.

Looks like one of the routes comes by my house. I've seen a handful of bikers come by, and there are some markings that look like route markings on the road.
This was fun.  I saw Frank at the rest stops.  He's an animal for doing it on a single speed, and his bike is awesome.

Was he on the Sword? It almost makes me want to try a fixed gear.

Yeah, but he has a flip-flop hub on it, so he did it with the freewheel.
