Nathan and Zandr's wheelgasm

I'm going the cheap but strong route.  Thinking about the Azonic Outlaws, then I'll steal yours when you aren't looking.  cool

You can save 500g (> 1 lb) and spend not too much more by having Derek build you a set. It would be just as strong (if not stronger), but lighter. And you'd be supporting your LBS like a man. Real talk.

For serious though if you must pick up a set of pre-builts check out the Transition Revolutions. I was looking at those but ultimately decided I wanted a bit more bling and and bit less weight. There are several color combos and they come with a 10mm QR TA on the rear. Pretty nice for a couple hundo. http://www.transitionbikes.com/Components_Revolution.cfm

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of deal did Derek cut you on your wheelset? (You can PM me) I thought that Hope II rear hub you got was more expensive than the entire wheelset I was looking at.  It comes with hubs, spokes and rims for $240 +$20 shipping.

I was planning on getting the Azonic Outlaw wheelset, Kenda Nevegals and a new cassette for about $350.  That way I could get my old wheels trued and have a spare set, since I seem to be good at bending wheels.

Also, I bought $3000 worth of bikes from Derek last year.  If that isn't support I dunno what is. smile

I love my Nevegals. You're making a fine choice. 2.35s or 2.5s?

I'm gonna get the 2.35s.  If I wanted really wide tires I get a Surly Pugsley.  2Cool4Frog

I split this so we weren't shitting up the other thread.

After hearing you talk about how much you liked them at least I know they work well around here.  I'd be pissed if I spent $50-100 on tires and they sucked.  My stock tires probably have another season in them but you can't lean over on them in corners and I always spin the rear tire going up steep stuff.

If you want, after you get your rear wheel trued, we can swap wheels for a lap around Scales so you can try out the tires. I'd hate for you to buy them on my recommendation only to wind up hating them.

...... Except I have 180f/160r rotors and you have 203f/180r. Fuck.

Edit: I probably should upgrade my brakes, or at least get bigger rotors. But if you want to swap bikes for a lap around scales I'm okay with that too .. if you think you're man enough for my bars. It might be hard to isolate the effect of the tires though.

I can has unnecessarily huge brakes.  It's not like you need them at Scales, since most of the downhills that require braking are only 50ft long.

The bars won't be a problem, but we might have to swap seats too.  Last time I sat on your bike I could barely touch the pedals with the seat all the way down.  Wouldn't mind trying it out though.  I wanna ride Dan's bike too, since that's what I was going to get originally.

The seat posts are the same size if you want to swap them (30.9mm). My bike isn't really that big though. It's nearly the same size as yours.
You guys are jerks with too much money.

SORRY I COULDN'T HEAR YOU I WAS TOO BUSY LIGHTING $100 BILLS ON FIRE FOR MY OWN PERSONAL AMUSEMENT
Are you guy's planning a downwhill trip I didn't know about?  I can't imagine why else your bikes would have to be so strong, It took a 30 foot drop onto a log to bend the light ass xc wheelset I had on my old bike.

But if someone wants to go totally overkill on their brakes I would love to pick up a decent set of disks for my bike.

(didn't read the whole thread edit) ahhh their lighter and stronger, carry on.
Nathan has pansy wheels. They bend if the wind is strong enough. I'VE SEEN IT HAPPEN GO BACK TO MY HOUSE WE'RE PLAYING WII ALL NI--BLARGH

I want my stuff to be overbuilt. That way I don't have to worry about it. Plus I like blingy goodness. And when I got my new wheels, I chose the 29mm rims vs. the 31mm rims to save some weight. I could've gone with double wall 35mm 36h DH rims.

Yeah I'm actually trying to talk Nathan into buying wheels that are lighter than those he wants to buy. Outlaws are super heavy, at least 2500g (> 5lbs). I didn't actually weigh mine but I calculated that they're around 2000g +/-.

I don't really care about weight, I just want strength.  I'm sick of bending rims.

I ended up ordering the Azonic Outlaws today.  JensonUSA had them on sale for $200 so I picked up those, a set of Nevegals and a SRAM P970 cassette.  golf clap

I think it looks like that because they're 36-hole rims instead of 32.
