Ride @ Scales Lake

We have a thread for every other trail in the area, so why the hell not?  Big Grin

I'm going to try to make it out to Scales Lake this Sunday if anyone wants to go.  Time doesn't really matter but if it's up to me I'll go in the afternoon.  I know a lot of you have never been out there but believe me, it's well worth the trip.  After the first time I rode there I couldn't believe I'd never been there before.  I felt like smacking myself.

YOU DON'T WANT TO SMACK YOURSELVES DO YOU?  DO YOU???

I can't do afternoon this Sunday. I could maybe do morning.
I might try for Saturday morning if it's not too wet and I'm not too tired.  School and work has been killing my bike time and energy.  It sucks.

I'm still planning on going to Scales tomorrow, probably in the afternoon.

With the new crap I put on the bike yesterday I'm hesitant to go ride a trail I don't know anything about, so Marc and I were going to Angel Mounds this morning. Besides, I don't think I've recovered enough from our epic adventure yesterday to fully appreciate Scales. However we were shooting to hit it next weekend, probably Saturday, for a supreme pimp daddy epic ride.

So it turns out that I lied in the AM thread. It looks like Scales is where it is at this Saturday.  Probably meet up there around 9-915am.  zandr, if you want to meet at my place around 8.30am to follow Pruss and I up there, then let me know.

Works for me.
Alright, this is the plan I'm thinking about:

Go to Scales in the morning. EPIC RIDE.  hell yeah!

Later, after rested and cleaned up, go to Angel Mounds and do trail maintenance. EPIC MAINTENANCE. wooooo

Go out Sunday morning and ride our newly maintenanced Angel Mounds. EPIC ANGEL MOUNDS. flame on

Sunday afternoon, die. EPIC DEATH. suicide

Someone give me a saw and I'll go out there tonight and clear out a lot of those trees.

I'm looking forward to Scales on Saturday though.  I was telling Marc that I'm planning on bringing a cooler with a sandwich and some extra water.  That way we can ride the loop once, stop at the car to grab a bite to eat and rest, replenish our water supplies and head back out.  Cthulhu

If you're for SRSLY give me a call, I'll come out and lend a hand and saw.

Loving the idea for the cooler, but how long is the loop at Scales?!

The full loop is about 6 miles.  Believe me, 6 miles out there is A LOT different than 6 miles at Angel Mounds.  Big Grin

I'm serious about going out to Angel Mounds to do some clearing tonight though.  I could meet you out there around 5:30-5:45.

Works for me. Give me a call before you head out.
I might go out there sometime tomorrow.  Maybe I will see you guys.  The loop is actually 4.5-ish miles, but ~5 if you do that one separate loop across from the Petting Zoo.  They are hard miles though, and they make Angel Mounds seem like a (very bumpy) road ride.  It doesn't get much more fun/difficult around here.

Marc just give me a call when you guys are headed this way.  If I don't answer I might be dropping a deuce or something.  Gotta get rid of excess weight before a ride.  Big Grin

I'm planning on getting up at 8:00-8:15 so I should be ready to go.  wooooo

So we got to Scales this morning and....

The whole fucking park is closed.  They have no power, power lines are down everywhere and trees are all over the place.  So that sucked.

I ended up buying a hand saw from Home Depot and myself, 1.6t and zandr went to Angel Mounds and did some trail maintenance.  Actually, we did A LOT of trail maintenance.  We cleared out all but the two biggest trees, which will require a chainsaw.  The trails are in much better shape now though.  do what now

Wow that sucks.  My dad went out there without his bike because the guys we ride with called this morning and were out there doing some work and said it would be impossible to ride.  He isn't home yet.  Then, I read in the paper about it being closed and how they are getting disaster funds.  I wish I could have gone out there to help, but I would have probably been in the way of people with saws. It's a sad deal, since it's almost the wet season.

Just called Scales and they are open.  Who is down to go this Saturday about 9am or so (weather permitting)?
