Ride @ Scales Lake

Yeah, I'll show up.

This is a good guy right here.
I'm leaving in the next 5 minutes or so
holy fuck, i'm dead. dan can explain if he wants, it will be awhile before i am able to

EDIT: Okay, I'll see how well I can do. I attempted (note that word) the jump.

A couple of practice runs down the hill and stopping on the ramp made me think I could probably do it. So I lowered my seat, took off the CamelBak and gave it the old college try.

I knew the second I hit the ramp I wouldn't make it. When I opened my eyes I couldn't breathe. Somehow I managed to hurt my right wrist (for like the fourth time this year) and my left ribs. It took me forever to get my breath back and even longer to stand up.

Nothing is broken as far as I can tell (everyone says if I had broken ribs I would know), but my shit is sore. My wrist isn't too bad actually and my ribs only hurt I breathe deep but I'm going to be sore as hell tomorrow.

Much respect and thanks to db for talking me back to life. He could've easily stolen my bike and left me to suffer.
Pretty gnarly is my best way to describe it.  It looked as bad as it probably feels.

All there is for me to fill in is what happened between the ramp and the ground.  The approach had plenty of speed but after you left the ramp is when things went awry.  Instantly when you went into the air the front tire dipped and ended up smashing into the other side of the gap.  That in turn ejected you from the bike and sent you sliding like a toboggan down the landing ramp.  The rest was you waiting to get your breath back, it was knocked out harder than I've seen in awhile.

No more x-games shit!
Always make sure you pull the front of the bike up hard,  last time i made that mistake off a jump i lost my front teeth.

But glad to hear that you are still alive and not in traction.
Hey, you crazy kids be careful out there. I'll need someone to show me around once I finally make it out there to ride next year.
Marc showed a surprising amount of prescience about this ..

i'm thinking about taking the jump today.

oh god.

From PMs yesterday.

This morning I am sore but not terribly. I'm actually surprised that I can move. From what I've been able to tell, thanks to my advanced medical training, I think I bruised my lung, not my ribs. My ribs don't hurt when I press on them, but when I take a deep breath it does hurt so I figure that's from my lung touching my ribs. My wrist is just stiff, not really all that sore. I think I hurt a different part of it than the last three times.
It's good to hear you are okay, but tell us what we really want to know: how is the bike?  My dad almost wiped out on the ramp because he was going too slow and just landed on top of the landing.  I'm tempted to do it since my bike is ready for it's yearly "everything is messed up and needs replaced" shop visit, but I fear landing on a hardtail and busting my taint.  I might get the confidence someday.

The bike came through it like a champ. The stem rotated on the steerer tube slightly, but nothing an allen wrench couldn't fix on the trail. The front wheel is *very* slightly out of true, probably not enough for me to worry about right now. Otherwise, no problems whatsoever.

I did that ramp acouple weeks ago, its not hard to clear the gap, I actually came in alittle bit hot and landed further out than I needed to.  The rough part was the landing, I got higher than I needed to and overall it was a hard hit that let me know there was still a seat under my ass.
anyone riding these next couple of days? I'll be going tomorrow for sure, lonely thanksgiving for me this year.  Fridays Saturday and Sunday are all open too, looking at the forecast its going to be a beautiful weekend.
I think my dad and I are going on Thursday after a family thing.  It might end in a pukefest, but oh well.
I asked last time I was there, they said the gate would be closed on Thanksgiving. Just FYI, that might not be true but I probably won't be going out tomorrow.

The rest of the weekend is up in the air for me, depends on how much I have recovered from my crash.
Yeah, my dad called and they said they were closed.  We might just park on the road or something  Ninja  Or, we might just ride Angel Mounds since it's like half a mile from where we will be.
I rode at angel mounds for a couple laps today, hope to make it out riding again sometime over the weekend
I ended up going to Scales.  Their office was closed, but the gate was open.  Some workers were there and didn't say anything, so we did 3 laps and 4 Ultimates.  It was one way to burn off all of the food and pie I ate.
anyone want to ride today?
Probably going out this afternoon, 2-2:30 range.
Did a nice moderate pace ride today, 2 laps + 2 miracles. It was really nice out, and surprisingly empty. I only saw two other riders the entire time I was there.
