Well I think this storm pretty much seals the deal.

I wouldn't be going tomorrow even if it was the nicest day of the year, unfortunately. I went out to Scales with Eric after work and quickly got an education in why I bought a helmet. I came down a steep section into a quick up and down hill, then the trail curved to the right into another short and steep uphill section, curves to the left at the crest, then goes back down. I started cranking hard going into the second uphill section so my momentum would carry me up the hill, but I guess while I was rounding the right-hander my inside pedal hung up on a root. This caused my left foot to come off the pedal and plant itself in the ground. When the pedal my foot slipped off of continued into the back of my calf I got launched right into the uphill section. No sliding or rolling for me, just THUD. Took the full impact on my left side with my arm trapped underneath. My ribs are killing me but I got to experience something new. I've never had the wind knocked out of just one lung! Talk about weird sensations.

So the damage: my ribs and entire left side are pretty sore, I have a deep bruise on the back of my left calf, and I did something to my ankle. It doesn't really hurt but it's pretty swollen. If I push on it a certain way it feels kind of ... un-natural. Like imagine you're standing on a steep incline facing downhill so your toes are kind of pointed. When I put pressure on it in that direction it feels like my leg is going to slide off of my foot.

Anyway, after I recovered for a bit we finished that loop then rode the loop starting at the petting zoo that goes around by the cemetery, so another mile or two.
Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow, but right now I'm gonna go find some beer.
