Figured I'd show my bicycles! Just because.
Nothing really that special. A road bike from Bikesdirect.com and an '07 Specialized Hardrock Sport.
That is all.
Comment, scoff, question, do what you will. Just felt like posting pics of my bikes!

I only had a certain amount to spend on a bike, so I went with what I could.

In my years of riding, I've only had one ride when I felt unsafe and wished I had disc brakes. That was a really rainy day and the only time I was seriously scared about brake fade. Disc brakes are great if it's in your budget, but unless you are riding through streams or in heavy rain or racing down a mountain they aren't all that necessary.
I always wanted to get a bike from Bikes Direct. They are pretty much the same frames from Taiwan that other companies use, only they bought the rights to old company names(Motobecane, Dawes, Windsor, etc) but they deck them out with good components and the prices are way lower. You can get a $1,500 Giant, or the same thing without the Giant name for $750 from Bikes Direct. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend.

Let's turn this into a "Post Your Bikes" thread. We need a centralized location to keep track of everyone's rigs.
Here's my old war horse:
'02 Trek Buiser II
If everything goes well I should be getting one of these soon:

I'm not good at this whole "clean bike" thing. It's good for the kind of riding I do and until I can afford something nicer.
Bonus pictures of my dad's bike because it's pretty sweet:
My fork, wheels, and hubs came from his bike when back when my uncle owned it. Long complicated story, but my uncle rides a Specialized Epic now, which is ultra sweet. The "brain" in the rear shock is awesome. It automatically stiffens when you are on a smooth trail to almost become a hardtail, and then becomes full suspension when you are in rougher terrain.

I went on my first ride at Scales Lake since around December today. You have to watch those damn WT camper brats walking all over the trails because of the holiday. I took a pretty nasty spill(on the same fucking hunk of coal that cracked my rear wheel over a year ago). My elbow and knee is a little sore, but it's feeling better. Some people have done a lot of work there by adding wood bridges in some previously low spots and a jump or two. I didn't want to Sonny Bono a tree, so I opted to not attempt the jumps. All in all, it was a good ride.
I might start checking Ebay more often for a new bike because we have a friend that got a Norco Liquid 3 from some bike shop on there for $800. I'm usually not one to "Keep up with the Joneses" but it was a sweet bike for that price.

My primary ride - Sunday Wave
My hardtail - Mongoose Titanium. Use as a commuter or for justing getting miles in around town.
My full suspension - Specialized Stumpjumper Pro FSR XC. Haven't ridden this one for a while, but I just can't get rid of it in case I decide to start riding cross country again.

Too depressing to even post a pic of my bike, since it's a huge terd! I'm riding an '07 Giant Rincon right now and trying to convince myself to keep it and put slicks on it and then get a dual suspension for trail riding. I used to have $2500 tied up in a Cannondale Super V, but, that is long gone now.

What do those bikes usually weigh? I had an old GT and I swear it was heavier than my mountain bike.
Also, why are most 20" bikes cro-mo instead of aluminum or carbon? Does it just work better?

My bike currently weighs 23 lbs, 10 oz. It'll be lighter whe I get an alloy post and a new back wheel.
They use Chromoly steel because it's stronger than both aluminum and carbon. Aluminum and carbon are ok on race bikes, where the most you'll be doing is jumping really fast, but bikes designed for the street/park generally have to absorb more shock form hard landings and such. If you're smooth enough you can probably get away with an aluminum frame at a skatepark, but not street riding.

I would think aluminum would be okay though. If you look at the frame of my bike it's essentially a BMX bike with 26" wheels. It was designed for urban riding/dirt jumping and it's all aluminum. I've taken it off 5' drops to flat with all 215lbs (at the time) of me on it and it didn't flinch.

I've broken an aluminum frame in half before. And I mean ALL the way in half, not just a broken weld. To get an aluminum frame to be as strong as a chromoly one it would probably have to have huge tubing and might weight more than a butted chromoly frame. There is a titanium frame available in 20" if you feel like paying $1200.

Finally too a few pictures of the new bike today. Also got a bonus shot of the Xterra and a few updated pics of the old bike.
The bike fits in the back pretty well.
Some random pics of the bike.
Some update pics of the old Bruiser. Got new tires, brake pads and pedals.
These tires feel a lot better on pavement than the old Kendas, which is where this bike is primarily ridden.
Good comparison of how much longer the Pitch is.
If I can find the charger for my camera I'll get some pics out on the trails. I may need to order a new one though.

Here's my new commuter. It's an FBM Sword track frame with a fixed gear drivetrain. Clean and simple, just like my 20". I was worried if I'd like the fixed gear, but now that I've gotten used to it, it's pretty cool. I'm still experimenting with gear ratios and stem height. Once I've decided what gear I want to run, I'll buy a black chainring to finish the blackout.
I've been making an effort to ride to work as long as it isn't raining in the morning. It takes less than 10 minutes on a bike. Saturday was the first day I've driven a car in over a week.

I has no bike. But I want to lose weight. this 350+lbs I'm carrying around is not fun. I'm wondering if I could ride one around town to maybe help that.
