I dumped a cup of coffe on my laptop about 30 minutes ago. The screen is fucked. I bought it from best buy 10 months ago. And I didn't get the protection plan, awesome. It turns on, the screen lights up, but there is no picture and has water marks. It's a Sony Vaio. I may try to take it back to best buy/geek squad and see if they can work with me. USI has a pc repair program, but I don't really want kids just tearing my laptop open. I'd fix it myself, but I'm afraid something else would be fied and I not know it. Thoughts?

Let it dry out overnight and see what happens. My girlfriend did the same to her laptop and let it dry out and then worked fine. I'm not a technician at all so that's all I have to offer

it's most likely fucked.
since it was on when the spill occurred there is a 99% chance you fried something on the motherboard that is not repairable.
However the 1% chance that you just have a short in the board that did not cause permanent damage - could be tested by disassembling the machine and washing the board and other components in denatured alcohol in a static proof bag, then air dried for 24 hours.
It's a lot of work for something that in all likely hood will not work.

Lol it was fried. Motherboard. Hard drive. Disc drive. Basically everything except the ram was toast. Just went and bought another Vaio for 400 at walmart.

Just an FYI for the future. If anyone spills anything on any laptop, your first response should be to unpulg the power and to pull the battery. Don't wait until you see blips and hyroglyphics on the screen as it is too late by then.
If you spilled just water, let it dry out for a few days then try again.
However, if you spilled coffee or a cola, You may have a sticky keyboard in the end which will require extra steps. I know this may sound crazy, but put you can put your laptop in a dishwasher and run it through one time. Then let it air dry for about two weeks and they usually work afterwards.
Keep in mind that water and liquids DO NOT DAMAGE electronics. Electricity applied to wet electrionics do!!!!
