Looking to buy a camera

With a baby on the way, I'm wanting to pick up a nice camera to have. I've narrowed it down to two pretty much; a Nikon L120 or a Canon sx30is. I don't know if I can justify the extra $100 for the Canon, but everyone seems to tell me to spend the money and get the Canon. Im just wondering what some of your opinions are.

I'm partial to nikon. The ones I've used seemed easier to use than the canons I've used, but I havent used many of either. Definitely don't waste your money on anything that uses AA batteries. A lithium ion rechargeable will save you a ton of headaches, and it's nothing to just put the battery on the charger before you go to bed.

I like the way the Nikon looks and feels in my hands a lot more. I know that's a dumb reason why I want it more. The nikon only comes with aa's. The canon just reminds me of my mom's old 35mm she had when I was growing up
