Music nerd concentration camp

Until Dan gives us a media forum, I'll just use this thread to talk about stuff. (Edit: BLAM Done. -Dan)

RIP Hot Cross. Picture discs are cool though.

Hooray for having number 204 of 300 Street Smart Cyclist demos.

Yay for 6" splits.  I think it just a ploy to get people to buy them early because they make a 7" version of it now.

Also Hooray for the Mike/Keith connection for hooking me up with a new turntable.  I'll be jamming all night.

Ampere / Daïtro split.  Includes lyrics in French and English as if you could understand what they are saying anyway.  Took like 3 months to get because the dude selling them was on tour.  Rad stuff.

I just got this in the mail today.  Daïtro are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.  It's a split with Sed Non Satiata.  Hand silk-screened covers and only 600 made.  The nice thing is(not that you can understand the vocals anyway) they set up a site with the lyric translations to a bunch of different languages as they sing in French. It's good stuff and you all should check them out.
man i haven't bought anything on vinyl since like 2005. i don't even remember my most recent purchase.

Big Grin i would have been 2 years old. seriously though, i miss hunting down hard to find records. it really sucks how such a small amount of places are left that sell vinyl.

I'm posting this mainly to make sure WashinMyGoat gets it. If you've never listened to Dubstep before though, you should get this too. I'd like to see what 1.6t and mitsuman think about it. Keep in mind that it's pointless to listen to it on anything without a lot of bass.
I can't wait to check that out.  Dubstep is so singles based that it would be really expensive to collect the actual vinyl(since it's mostly imports).  I love the dubstep podcasts so that you don't feel like you have to track down every track on its own.  They do the hard work for you.

*Edit*  Damn, Benga is such a good DJ.

I've heard some of the dubstep from your collection. It's pretty damn good. I would like to listen to it on a stereo with some bass though.

Awesome! Check out that mix above. It was made by some really cool dude in NYC that frequents some music boards I'm on. I like it because he added in some rap vocals so it's a little easier to jump in to. Again, check it out on something with a lot of bass and it's a thousand times better. I'll burn you a disc with some of the real good stuff or something if you want.

Checking out the DJ Crabhat now.  Was wondering how long it would take for the wobble to get to the US.  Kind of what I told JellyBass right before they got signed (UK group).  Not really much of that here, but with the popularity of the old Miami Bass style (been a huge fan boy since i was about 12), wobble would certainly be a hit.  Haven't checked out the Benga/Dubstruck yet.

Here is a link to JellyBass though, check them out.  They just recently got signed and would appreciate US support.  I BOUGHT a couple of their songs already.

BTW Crabhat was good once you get past the first song where some random black dude is screamin "after I beat that pussy up, I'll stick it in her butt".
If you don't let that part dissuade, it is pretty good.

I'll definitely check that out some more. I haven't real recently. You should like the Benga quite a bit though. Between Benga and Coki, there's little else I've been listening to lately.

I thought I was going to get to go to some RinseFM dubstep show while I'm in Amsterdam next month but now it looks like I might get in town a day too late. DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, and Kid Koala are all playing right beforehand too. God dammit.

Hey, that's Lil' Jon. He's on your fridge even!
Crabhat is pretty cool because he just kind of makes mixes of what he is listening to at the time.  He had one that is like a Kid606 tribute, then he has some Girl Talk sounding mashups, and then his dubstep mix.

If you check out boomkat.com and check out an artist you know, and then check out what other people bought you can get some samples of a lot of singles of similar artists.  Then you can cry if you can't find them online because imports are expensive as hell.

And on the subject of electronic music, a lot of people are digging Baltimore Club music, but I'm not feeling it too much.  I have a couple of mixes, and something about it doesn't hold my attention like I hoped based on the hype it's been getting.

Edit: apparently Baltimore Club is similar to Miami Bass, so check that out if you haven't.

Got any names?  I googled "Baltimore Club music" and the first link was just some random house mix with some guy singing "shake that ass girl, rub them tits".

The only one i can remember off the top of my head it Tittsworth, and I think that's why I didn't like it too much.  Some of the samples annoyed me.

When you think of Miami Bass, think of a small compact car rolling down your neighborhood with 2 or more sub woofers in the back rattling your silverware as it drives by.   Like Techmaster P.E.B., DJ Fury, Bass 305.  Not that ghetto rap bullshit.

The new Portishead has leaked...

Just thought I'd throw that out there...
